St. Patrick’s Day on the Outer Banks

Heileo (Hello), and welcome to the Outer Banks, North Carolina in beautiful Dare County! While the Irish-American population in the United States is around 10%, Dare County’s population boasts a higher percentage – about 15% (you can even hear this persistent accent in Ocracoke brogue). Given the strong Irish heritage in the area, it’s no surprise that the Outer Banks hosts several exciting St. Patrick's Day events across the islands!

Sunday, March 16
1pm

The most anticipated event each year, celebrating both Irish culture and the local community, is the 34th Annual Kelly's St. Patrick’s Parade in Nags Head, which will take place on Sunday, March 16 at 1pm, rain or shine. This year’s parade will honor Dare County's Historical Maritime Industry, which includes commercial fishing and boat building, key elements of the region's economy. The parade will follow a one-mile route along the Beach Road (Virginia Dare Trail), with categories for Best Overall, Best Float, Best Unit, and Best Band/Music group. Prizes will be awarded afterward.
The Outer Banks hosts the largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in North Carolina, attracting thousands of spectators.
