Watersports

Thing To Do Watersports
With seven miles of wide, spacious beaches, Duck, NC, has plenty of room to sit and relax on the sand. But what if you're interested in doing a little more than just enjoying the sun?

Watersports such as kiteboarding, surfing, and water skiing are common activities for all visitors to the Outer Banks - and it's not just relegated to those who want to lug all their gear from home.

Several companies up and down the islands not only rent out gear to visitors to the coast, but also offer lessons who those are just getting their feet wet - literally and metaphorically!

In Duck, we recommend Nor'Banks, North Duck Watersports, and Kitty Hawk Kites for watersports enthusiasts!

With jet ski, paddleboard, kayak, and pontoon boat rentals, Nor'banks is located right in-land of the Currituck Sound. Their wide arrange of watersports equipment extends to cover sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, sodas and waters, just in case you've forgotten something! They also offer a water fill station for your reusable bottles. After spending a day out in the sun, you can also visit the Village Table and Tavern upstairs from Nor'Banks.

Want a bit more action? Wakeboard, waterski, kneeboard and tube trips are a perfect way to spend a few hours in Currituck Sound, and can accommodate up to six people to a trip (and children ages 2 and up).

Nor'banks also has parasailing tours, in 800, 700, and 600 ft. heights, with photo and video packages to capture those memorable moments where you're floating over the waves.

They also offer catamaran tours on the Surfer Girl for days of fun in the sun, and sailing classes to prepare yourself for your very own pirate adventures on the Atlantic Ocean. You can even rent your own catamaran, if you'd prefer!

If you're looking for smaller scale adventures, North Duck Watersports has you covered.

With jet skis, paddleboards, pontoon boats, and kayak rentals, North Duck focuses on individual, private adventures in Currituck Sound. You're free to travel as far as you'd like across the water before you come back to shore. Paddle your kayak along the shore to see the marine and land wildlife, race the jet skis in the middle of the sound, or take the pontoon boat out to a quiet spot and take a swim off the side of the boat.

Parasailing is the only guided activity that North Duck offers, but the view is incredible enough that you won't regret it!

Parasailing, pontoon boats, paddleboards, kayaks, and jet ski rentals are just some of the offerings at Kitty Hawk Kites in Duck.

With store fronts up and down the islands (and a few locations in New England and Florida!), Kitty Hawk Kites in Duck is unique amongst its sister locations with its Vineyard Voyages.

Departing from the Currituck Sound, you'll arrive to a historic hunting lodge boathouse, and take a open-air 4×4 safari truck to the 33-acre seaside vineyard known as Sanctuary Vineyards.

Once there, you'll be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the winery and, of course, participate in a private wine-tasting. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented in oak barrels, and Sanctuary Vineyards has over 100 awards for their wines!

There are also sunset tours available, where you'll sail back across the sound just as the sun is setting!
