Happy Tourism Week
Governor Pat McCory made a visit to the Outer Banks last week to commemorate Tourism week in North Carolina.
Holding a press conference at the foot of the Bonner Bridge on Hatteras Island Governor McCrory wore a suit, but took his shoes off for the conference saying he was at the beach and wanted to get some sand between his toes.
Governor McCrory, pictured above with (from Left) Dare County Commissioners Bob Woodard, Max Dutton, Virginia Tillett, Dare County Tourism Board Chairperson Monica Thibodeau, and Dare County Commision Chairman Warren Judge said in his remarks that North Carolina attracted 52.5 Million visitors from other states last year, and that $55 Million per day was spent on tourism in 2013. More than 200,000 people are directly employed by the tourism industry.
North Carolina is ranked the 6th most popular state in the country in terms of tourism and visitation in 2013. Dare county ranks 4th in the state in terms of visitation and visitor spending and is the #1 coastal county on the list.
